“Average Dick”- What Does That Even Mean?

Blame it on the internet or the easy availability of porn, but most adult males, and for that matter, most teenage boys too, seem to think that size is all that matters. Everyone has their own version of how big or thick one needs to be sexually happy.

And while most females will gladly tell men how wrong they are when it comes to the notion that size is most important, it is true that most males seem to have a slightly warped concept of what the average penis size is. This is of course no thanks to the unrealistic standards set by porn.

As usual, we’re here to break down one of the most asked questions to do with penis lengths and size.

The Most Common Misconception

A study on the subject of penis size conducted by Bruce King of Clemson University, aptly termed “Average-Size Erect Penis: Fiction, Fact, and the Need for Counseling” found that most men believe the average penis size to be more than 6 inches or 15 centimetres.

Most of this misinformation on penis size is due to earlier studies that largely relied on self-reported measurements. As per King, such earlier studies usually fell prey both to “volunteer bias and social desirability bias”.

In reality, a rough estimate places only 10 percent of the world’s male population with penises that measure 6 inches or above when fully erect.

How do you even calculate the size of your penis?

If, after reading the above, your interest is well and truly piqued, and you would like to measure the length of your penis (assuming you have one!), here’s how we suggest you measure.

First off, try not to measure your penis with a ruler or something hard. You’d be better off using a soft tape measure for better accuracy. Next, place one end of the tape measure at the base of your penis, where the pubic bone is. Obviously, while doing this, your penis needs to be erect (but how you get there is something this post can’t help with!)

Measure the entire length, allowing the tape measure to follow the natural curve. Once the tape measure reaches the end, don’t allow yourself an extra inch, if you want an accurate reading. The number on the tape measure that reaches the tip is how long your penis is.

So what is the average size of a male penis?

We’re finally answering the question… to cut a long story short, the “average erect dick” measures 5.2 inches. Of course, this is the global average. Every country’s average differs, with the Republic of the Congo taking the top spot with an average penis size of 7.059 inches. Australia sits in the 92nd position in case you were wondering.

What’s the Most Important Takeaway here

While most men tend to think that the larger their favourite thing, the happier their partner will be, sexually speaking. However, the truth according to most surveys is that women rarely care about the size of their partner’s penis. A Dutch studythat researched this spoke to 375 sexually active women who had recently given birth at the University Hospital Groningen.Of these women, 77 percent women attached little or no importance to the length of their partner’s penis.

The cliche about skill being more important than size does seem to be based in truth, after all.
